Description

Metrosideros ‘Excelsa’ is the iconic, majestic form of Pohutakawa New Zealand is renowned for. The large, coastal variety found along our beachfronts provides stunning displays of velvety red flowers in Summer and shade from the sun to picnic beneath.

The Matt green foliage has contrasting felted white undersides and the trunk and branches are attractively gnarled.

Left untrimmed, the Pohutakawa’Excelsa’ forms a spreading dome shaped tree. 

Provides food for our native birds and insects.

Easy to grow, tolerant of coastal conditions and sandy soils. 
Eventual height estimated to be around 20 metres.

Position in full sun.

Growing in a 1 litre pot.
