A NZ native evergreen tree with a juvenile and adult stage. The juvenile form which can last 15-20 years has leathery stiff leaves with a prominent central rib and are 1cm wide and up to 1m long with a toothed margin which all grow downwards from a central stem. In the adult form the tree branches producing a round canopy and the leaves become wider and shorter.

Flowers are 5mm across, green yellow in colour and produced summer to autumn.

Tolerates coastal conditions.
