Description
Feijoa ‘arhart’ makes a great hedging option with a dual purpose to provide both shelter and privacy as well as producing large fruit with a smooth light green skin. The fruit is aromatic, sweet and juicy. Tree is smothered in lovely red Pohutakawa like flowers at Christmas time.
Fruit is rich in Vitamin C and dietary fibre. Plant in full sun in fertile, well drained soil. Frost and draught tolerant. Train tree to a single trunk to half a metre then form a vase shape by selecting 4 to 6 main laterals. Maintain desired shape and size by regular pruning after fruiting. Fruit is formed on current season wood. Provide planty of moisture during fruiting swelling stage. Feed with citrus fertiliser in late winter. Cross pollination will enhance fruit set.
